Emma Forde Nail Academy is a stylish nail salon and education center dedicated to providing high-quality nail services for hands and feet.

I am very proud to be a brand ambassador and educator for the nationally renowned Irish nail brand, kohana professional. together we offer a variety of educational nail courses suitable for all entry levels, from complete beginners to experienced professionals, all of which are AIT (Associated Irish Therapists) Accredited.

we are an amazing team of educators who are passionate about empowering individuals with the knowledge and skills to excel in the nail industry.

Services

Structured Gel Polish

Also known as a "BIAB" application, this service provides clients with durability for up to four weeks due to its gentle apex structure.

Cosmetic Pedicure

Unwind with a luxury foot treatment including, soaking, exfoliating, toenail and cuticle care, followed by a restorative massage. Add a Kohana Professional toe paint, if desired.

Hard Gel Extensions

Create stronger, natural looking nails by adding length to form any shape of your choice using tips/forms.

Nail Training Courses

Choose from a variety of training courses suitable for every entry level. From soft to hard gel systems, topics include; nail anatomy, hygiene, diseases/disorders, correct product application and use of tools required for a gel manicure.

Applying BIAB too thick can cause improper curing, leaving the inner layers soft/uncured, which weakens the structure and can even lead to chemical burn.

It may also increase the risk of lifting, cracking or peeling as the product can't bond evenly to the natural nail.

Thick layers can create excess heat during curing. Making the process uncomfortable or even painful. Add this to already thinning nails, you run the risk of thermal burn.

Less is more in this case.

Is your Primer TOO OLD?? 🫣

Is your Primer extra shiny when applied, does the end of the bottle contain dust particles? I understand that we all want value for money when it comes to using products, but our clients want value too when it comes to retention.

Using old, oxidised primer from the end of the bottle increases the risk of lifting and can lead to disappointment for you and your client.
Make sure your primer is fresh and free of dust.

Do you need a break? Four weeks is NOT enough!

The natural nail plate grows about 0.5 - 0.7 mm per week on average. That's roughly 2-3mm per month, meaning it can take 4-6 MONTHS for a nail to fully grow from base to tip.

Therefore, if your goal is to grow out and recover a thinning or damaged nail into a healthier, stronger nail, a substantial break from enhancements may be required.

PREVENT BREAKAGE & CRACKING!

Corners are often where most BIAB breakage begins. Without reinforcement, nails can;

*crack diagonally from the sides
*chip at corners
*split when client hits the edge.

HARD GEL is more RIGID than BIAB, so it protects those vulnerable edges while BIAB provides flexibility across the nail.

Correcting flooding before curing is one of the most important steps!!

What is the hidden apex?

The hidden apex is a structural reinforcement point, built into the enhancement (acrylic, hard gel or builder gel) that is not visibly bulky yet still provides strength.

The apex or highest point adds strength, prevents cracking/lifting and balances the nail structure.

What makes the hidden apex, well.. HIDDEN?
The strength is mostly within the structure, especially when you builder gel/BIAB. The nail remains natural looking from the outside as the bulk is blended smoothly into the structure, not appearing obvious or raised.

Filing in both directions can sometimes flatten the etching you have made and end up polishing the nail, making it harder for product to grip onto the surface.

Etch in one preferred direction to allow the microscopic scratches to remain standing.

Holding the disc of the cone 90° to the folds is so important because if the angle is too steep or tilted, the edge of the fiscal may catch the skin or nail plate, causing cuts, rings of fire (heat damage) or rouges to the delicate nail plate. Keeping it parallel minimises trauma and over heating
